Blogs Can Earn Money: Tumblr Will Launch An Ad Program For Its Users

By

Tumblr users will soon be able to cash out from the ads that are appearing on their blogs.

Later this year, Tumblr will launch a program that would let users generate income from their Tumblr blogs. The company will first introduce ads onto its service. However, users can turn off the ads in their blog through the account settings if they want to, according to Tumblr's blog.

Tumblr bloggers will then be able to earn a share of the revenue made from the ads on their blogs although the amount of earnings users can get was not yet clear.

This is not the first attempt made by Tumblr to advertise on the blogs. In 2012, the company starts to work with a few limited number of advertisers. They placed curated ads into the dashboards of the users' account. Also, Tumblr opened for ads paid by brands who want to promote their blogs to other users, Fortune reported.

The ads will be placed in three places in Tumblr. Ads will be seen on the main page of the blog on Tumblr. Also, ads will be posted on the slide -out section and on the mobile app and web of Tumblr.

One obstacle Tumblr may face in implementing this project could be the teenage users. Teenagers are one of the great trendsetters in Tumblr. Some of these teenagers have been already hooked to the service. However, it would be difficult for them to participate in the advertisement program since it would require them to be at least 18 years old.

This extra revenue project by Tumblr comes after Yahoo, its parent company suffered a large loss when it failed to hit the ambitious 100 million dollar ad revenue target that the company set in 2014, Mashable reported.

Tumblr was acquired by Yahoo in 2013 for a price of $1.1 billion.

Meanwhile, Yahoo announced that it had agreed that Verizon would be sold for 44.83 billion since the company had been struggling to turn the business around.
