About 24 Miami Heat fans were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the collapse of an outdoor deck Thursday night, CBS Miami reported.

Following an exhilarating basket by the Heat, more than 100 patrons on the deck rose to their feet to cheer.

"We walk in, we take a few steps in, my mom was looking for a hostess and you just hear [crunching noises]," said witness Anthony Herrera. "People [were] screaming and yelling, pieces of wood hitting the water."

The patio collapsed and as many as 100 people fell into Biscayne Bay. Leah Masters, a hostess at Shuckers Sports Bar, said bartenders and many others rushed into the water to help pull people out.

"I actually went in the water. We were pushing people out; my son was pulling people out," said witness Eric Williams, who said his son aided in getting people to land. "We pulled people out and pushed people up and moved chairs and tables and so forth."

Miami Fire Rescue's Lt. Ignatius Carroll said 33 people were reported hurt and 24 of those went to the hospital and two of the 24 were in critical condition.

"There were a lot of TVs and everybody was in celebration and it was loud," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Griselle Marino. "So when it started happening, some people didn't even realize what was going on."

Heat guard Dwayne Wade acknowledged the event in his post-game press conference following his team's win.

"I want to share our concerns as an organization and our gratitude to our fans back in Miami for their support and share our concerns for those who were injured tonight at Shuckers Restaurant," Wade told the media in San Antonio.

The restaurant had passed a safety inspection with its only mark against it being an issue regarding a fire extinguisher, which was fixed right away.

Miami Mayor Connie Crepes thanked the responders, saying, "It's very sad and very unfortunate and I want to say thank you for all the resources that came in minutes."
