Celebrity Twitter Accounts Hacked: Mark Zuckerberg, Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner And More Celebrities Targeted!

By

Looks like social media is no longer a safe rendezvous for catching up with friends and total strangers alike, especially if you're a celebrity.

Several celebrity Twitter handles have been put in jeopardy recently. Just a week ago, Katy Perry's account was compromised, and over the weekend Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was targeted by hackers that broke into his alternative social media accounts, but he is not the only one coping with this online assault.

Kylie Jenner, Tenacious D, Keith Richards, and the Ryan Dunn have all had Twitter accounts hijacked.

One of the hackers went as far as tricking several Twitter users into thinking "Goosebumps" actor Jack Black had kicked the bucket, TheVerge reported.

Although there is no confirmation if all celebrity account hacks are connected, but the arduous number is inconceivable and alarming at the same time.

Things got worse for Zuckerberg as he had his Pinterest and LinkedIn accounts hacked, and the computer jocks declared they picked up his password from the recently divulged LinkedIn password dump. Apparently, the T-shirt-wearing billionaire reused the same password on different sites.

Zuckerberg's account was hacked by a group dubbed OurMine Team, which claimed his password was one among more than 100 million acquired in 2012 during a LinkedIn hack. Although this happened quite long back, a new set of data from the trespass was divulged in May, provoking more recent hacks. If rumors doing rounds are anything to go by, the 2012 hacker (who is popularly known as "Peace") is selling the hijacked account data on the dark Web for about $2,923 (five bitcoin), PCMag reported.

Twitter was quick to react and suspended Zuckerberg's account, while Pinterest scrubbed any fake messages posted on the site as well. LinkedIn responded by resetting passwords of hack-afflicted accounts.

Have you changed your LinkedIn password recently? If not yet, now is the right time to do it. Also, ensure you're not using the same password for different sites.
