University Of Houston Student Killed, Girlfriend In Critical Condition After Drunk Driver Hits Couple [VIDEO]

By

Mark Tartaglio was walking his girlfriend Corina Burnett home last weekend after a sorority party on the night of April 14. The two were hit by a drunk driver driving a pickup just a few meters away from Burnett's sorority house. Tartaglio passed away while his girlfriend was in critical condition. The suspect has been arrested.

According to Daily Mail, Burnett is now in a stable condition. Police authorities arrested Marshall Patrick Schoen, a fellow University of Houston student, for drunk driving. Schoen was apparently trying to bypass an Infiniti car before him which was making a turn. When he tried to go around the car, his pickup spun out of control and hit both Tartaglio and Burnett.

After the pickup plowed the couple, they were both taken to a hospital where Tartaglio passed away from his injuries. Burnett who was severely wounded is in stable condition and is currently staying in the hospital. When Schoen was arrested, he was wearing blue medical scrubs, suggesting that he had come from a costume party. He is charged with intoxicated assault and his bond is set at $30,000, notes New York Daily News.

All three students were part of the Greek community. Tartaglio was part of Kappa Alpha, Schoen is in Pi Kappa Phi, while Burnett is a member of the Chi Omega sorority, KHOU reports. Friends of Tartaglio and Burnett set up a GoFundMe account for the medical expenses of the two. Their couple's friends describe them as being "some of the kindest, most caring people you'll ever meet."  The donations have reached nearly $20,000 since it was posted five days ago.
