Richard Sherman, San Francisco 49ers cornerback, kicked off the holiday season by extending help to middle school students who had some trouble paying for their school meal debts.

The 31-year-old football star recently donated more than $27,000 to clear the lunch debt of two West Coast schools, with the goal of ensuring students do not go hungry while learning.

One day after being named the National Football League Players Association Week 11 Community MVP, the Super Bowl-winning CB gave the Cabrillo Middle School principal in Santa Clara, California, a check payment worth $7,491.27 to clear all of the students' outstanding balance in the cafeteria.

Principal Stan Garber said Sherman pulled him aside to give him the check when he was working at the 49ers Museum. He added that the gesture of Richard created such goodwill for the 49ers. The next day they sacked Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on national television with a score of 37 to 8.

The donation comes after Sherman also donated $20,000 to the public school system in Tacoma, Washington to eradicate student lunch debt in the schools in the area. Tacoma is approximately 30 miles south of Seattle, where he played in 2011 to 2017 for the Seahawks.

Garber said Cabrillo Middle School is the closest to Levi's Stadium in California, where the 49ers are playing during the NFL season.

Garber expressed on Thursday through ABC News that it's the most generous thing to happen for these kids in need and Sherman didn't neglect them. He added that it's the perfect way to give them back and help them. He describe is as the most generous gesture of kindness.

Approximately 60 students will benefit from his donation. The donations were made after a new piece of legislation was signed into law by California Gov. Gavin Newsom that prohibits the process whereby institutions deny students a meal of their choice due to unpaid fees.

Since 2013, Sherman has also helped over 70,000 people to fulfill NFLPA's mission of providing school supplies and clothing to students in low-income communities so that they can achieve their goals more adequately, according to communications manager Brandon Parker.

On November 18, Sherman donated $5,000 to help a California youth football team get to nationals after their families had insufficient money to cover travel costs.

The Richard Sherman Foundation, Blanket Coverage, released a letter that mentioned about eliminating student lunch debt to help students and their families relieve some of the stress that daily school expenses entail. The foundation emphasized that the last thing any child should have to worry about is being able to afford eating breakfast and lunch at school.

Sherman's foundation does a lot of community volunteer work including things like school and homeless food drives and donations to local food banks. In 2013, Sherman started the foundation to provide school supplies and clothing for students in low-income communities. His foundation was founded with the main goal to help children attain academic success.

Sherman owns properties in Yorba Linda, California, and in Washington's Maple Valley. He was also featured on Madden NFL 15's cover. Sherman also writes for The Players' Tribune regularly and is also involved in cryptocurrencies and tech stocks. He is the ambassador for the FleetWit trivia app at the moment.
