Low-carb diets have been popular ever since the Atkins low carb diet program became the go-to for weight loss in 2000. A new study found out that a low-carb diet may help lessen food cravings and hunger.

The published study in ASEB Journal made it known that a low-carb diet may reduce food cravings and hunger. Wherein, the sustained increase in adherence and reduced energy intake are often seen with the low-carb diet, Diabetes reported.

Dietitian Jon Leech discusses why a person may want to consider cutting carbs. Leech explains that by cutting off carbs, people won't need to count calories as they will likely be less hungry by replacing starches and sugar with more satiating protein and fat. As an average person eats over 200 grams of carbohydrates a day, a low-carb diet would be well lower than that.

Nonetheless, if a person is looking to drop weight, it is recommended to aim for 50 to 100 grams of carbs per day. This would include about two pieces of fruit, full of vegetables and only minimal amounts of starchy carbs such as potatoes. A person will also have to eliminate junk food and snacks, as these are easy ways to cut off carbs and sugar.

But, an extreme dieter can go 20 to 50 grams of carbs a day. It has been said that a person's body goes into ketosis when eating under 50 grams per day. This is the process by which a person's energy is supplied by ketone bodies and it helps with weight loss.

Meanwhile, according to leading dietitian and nutritionist, Lyndi Cohen, if a person is skipping pasta, it's important for that person to watch their mood, for the reason that there is a scientific link between this meal plan and low or even high grade hum of unease. When a person's brain doesn't get enough of these chemicals, it can generate depression, Body And Soul reported.
