The world has been entirely different since the advent of the internet, most especially when social media networks took the world by storm. Social media has been a lot of help in so many ways. But too much of them can be also be detrimental to its users. This has just been revealed by a recent research which states how too much Facebook can make someone feel bad about themselves.

According to a research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, people who have been using too much social media, Facebook to be specific, are more likely to feel bad about themselves, Men's Health reported.

In the study, the researchers have used three waves of data from 5,208 people in the nationally representative Gallup Panel Social Network Study survey. They tracked and measured the participants' use of Facebook, and used the data to analyze their self-reported mental and physical health. They also were asked about their overall life satisfaction and BMI, and gathered information about the respondents' real world participation in the social media networks.

The researchers have found a not so pleasing results which has revealed how too much Facebook can negatively impact a person's wellbeing. They have concluded that the more people use Facebook, the worse they feel about themselves. They said that it is not just the liking of other people's content that makes them feel bad, but it is also about the posting of their own status and clicking links.

Another 2011 study has provided an explanation on why Facebook has a negative effects on its users, according to Psychology Today. The researchers have found that this tendency to feel worse emotionally is because of only one thing and that is envy.

While the researchers do not entirely encourage people to stop using Facebook, the only thing that they are trying to emphasize is that people should learn how to limit their use.
