Tech giant Asus is getting some big gaming news this week. Asus has just released its latest graphics cards that are based on Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and 1080 GPUs. Asus made the big reveal this week.

The Taipei-based hardware giant is making a huge play this week, announcing the release of its latest graphics cards that is based on Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs, both newly released graphics cards are said to be equipped with faster RAM. Additionally, the newly released Asus add-in boards (AIBs) has been designed to offer greater performance in high resolutions than reference designs. This greater performance will then enable Asus to charge a premium price for the higher FPS, the Anandtech reported.

Currently, the Taipei-based hardware company offers only two of such add-in-boards: the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC Edition 8 GB 11 Gbps and the Asus GeForce GTX 1060 OC Edition 6 GB 9 Gbps. Based on the company's proprietary design, Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 features an 8+2 phase VRM, one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe power connectors, the tech website added.

For cooling system, Asus equips its ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC Edition 11 Gbps with a 2.5-wide cooling system, which featured six heat pipes and three fans on board. Asus is also adding a new cooler features Asus' user-controllable Aura Sync RGB lighting.

The Taiwanese firm has also made some creative works on the power supply circuitry and power connector side, enable Asus to increase GPU and memory frequencies from those being required by Nvidia. Asus' works have also provided enough headroom for end-user overclocking.

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 is said to be more akin to the monstrous Nvidia Titan X graphics card for the one big reason: the GeForce GTX 1080 uses the same Pascal-based GP102 graphics processing unit as the Nvidia Titan X, but with some slight difference. The new card got much faster clock speed. It's also packed with lots of memory bandwidth, a whopping 11 GB of memory compared to the Nvidia Titan's 12 GB.

More importantly, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is powered by the company's award-winning NVIDIA Pascal architecture. It was designed primarily for extreme gaming experience and the latest PC games, according to PC Advisor.

Adding to the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti's selling point is the card's affordable pricing, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti can be purchased at the retail store for only $699, just the same price as the plain GTX 1080 that has been launched last year. Not only does the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti outperform rivals in the gaming world, this new kid on the block also performs better than its big brother, the $1,200 Nvidia Titan X.

Finally, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and AMD Radeon GPUs are the only two remaining competitors in the brutal high-end gaming market. Along with its closest rival, the AMD Radeon, the GeForce architecture is heading toward the much exciting world of general-purpose graphics processor unit (GPGPU).

The GPGPU is one big area that Nvidia is trying to explore now. The GPGPU has been described by experts as a new way to expand GPU functionality beyond the traditional rasterization of 3D graphics, to turn it into a high-performance computing device just in the same way a CPU does, but with different strengths and weaknesses.
