A promising future awaits high school students as Dallas Independent School District's A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School help them realize their dreams and help them prepare for getting into college. The campus offers AVID program which is a readiness program designed to aid in the skills development of students for college success.

AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, has helped so many students when it comes to their journey in finding success, WFAA8 reported. It has been a way and eye opener to many possibilities to the students.

Ivan Reyes, one senior student said that the program has taught them to be more organized and how to do planning. They went back to the basics and the fundamentals. Reyes, together with his classmate, Alexandrea Spencir, are part of the 25 percent of the students in campus who are going to first-generation university students.

What AVID teachers do is help students become college ready by providing them concentrated academic resources and social support. Students would also give feedback on how much their teachers push them to be the best that they can be.

New Tech has just been selected as the first national demonstration AVID high school. Principal Jameile Choice said that, being a principal, she sees to it that students perform at high levels and having received the recognition only goes to show that they have been meeting the standards.

AVID class is currently being offered to more than 2,000 high schools in the US, according to US News. It is a perfect opportunity for those who are looking for growth and for those who have shown potential. They cover wide-range for their program and focused on helping students fulfill their college dreams by being the first in the family to go to college.
