For fall 2017, California State Fullerton has received a total of 70,000 applications for admissions from many high school graduates and community college transfer students. Comparing to the last year's applications received by the university, there was a 3 percent increase, according to the Office of Admissions. This is trend is also similar to that of other universities in California, because more students prefer UC schools, according to The Highlander.

CSUF received 45,394 total applications for fall from incoming freshmen and 24,545 applications from community college and other upper-division transfer students - for a total of 69,939 applications, CSUF News Center reported. Last fall, the recorded number of enrollment totaled to 40,235 students.

Darren L. Bush, interim associate vice president for student affairs, who oversees admissions said that because of the growth in the number of enrollees, there is a continuous increase on the demand for high quality education in CSUF. He also said that they have been receiving a lot of positive feedback for their wide selection of degree programs, as well as their accommodation and caring environment. They have been seeing a steady increase when it comes to the applications, and it also includes the students in Riverside and Los Angeles counties, and in the other areas of California. And that is how they can tell that indeed, CSUF is in demand.

CSUF President Mildred García has observed in the previous years that the achievement gap between underrepresented students and their Caucasian peers has been eliminated which improved the graduation rates by 24 percent. Another reason they have pointed out behind the increase in the applications is the readiness of freshmen students for the challenges of college. There were also programs that were run to boost readiness of high school students entering CSU.

CSUF visions the continuous growth of the school as the model public comprehensive university of the nation.
