People are getting sick and it is not because they are getting infected by some bacteria or a virus. According to reports, the headlines are starting to make people sick such as Gigi Hadid's recent announcement that she lost weight after taking medication for Hashimoto's disease.

According to experts, people may follow the same path. This is Gigi Hadid's most recent trend and this is not something she did on purpose. She has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, a thyroid condition that is known to cause hair loss and weight gain.

During an interview with ELLE Magazine, Hadid confesses that her metabolism acted crazy which is why she needed to be on medication.

Gigi Hadid's condition is treatable, as reported by the New York Post. However, the medication being used as treatment made the Victoria's Secret model look thinner than usual. The threat of this trend is that it will not just raise awareness about the disease bu, on a negative note, experts point out that the trend can become almost fashionable.

Authorities in the medical community are fearful that Hadid's recent medical announcement may follow the trend where Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy announcement increased the rate of breast cancer testing. However, Hadid's trend may lean on the counter side.

Dr. Barron Lerner from the NYU Langone Medical Center says that when a disease is in the headlines, people are sure to think they have it. Which is why he thinks people will think that they have Hashimoto's disease since the illness has vague symptoms.

A professor at the University of Colorado says that these people do not want the illness but they may want the effects of it. He is pointing to the weight loss result people may see. Dr. Ovidio Bermudez from the Eating Recovery Center adds that they might overuse the medication that brings out weight loss.
