Ivy League universities are well known for being the educational hub of the wealthiest people in the world and are popular for shaping the sharpest minds.However there are prominent people who would want to break the myth that success exclusively depends on your Alma Mater.

While it is true that non-traditional colleges and universities like the Ivy League can give you an edge in terms of their reputable track record of producing brilliant minds, what is more appealing to many is the lower fees offered by community colleges so as to deal with the rising cost of tuition and decrease student debt. You might be surprised but here are some of the famous millionaires who were products of community colleges before they found their fame and fortune.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks studied theater in Chabot College in Hayward, California, according to Campus News, where he spent two years before he attended California State University in Sacramento. In Chabot, he began his acting career by playing George in a school production. He took an internship for the Midwest Theater festival which paved the way for his career in the film industry.

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman was a former student at Los Angeles City College, and according to Huffington Post, he served as a mechanic in the US Air Force before his legendary career started. And even if he was not able to earn a college degree, his career brought him a couple of honorary degrees.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs was known for immediately dropping out from the exclusive Reed College in Oregon but his lack of degree did not stop him from co-founding Apple and creating the kind of legacy in the tech world that will never be forgotten.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry, an Oscar winner with an $80 million net worth, started as a student Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland studying broadcast journalism. As a teen, she joined a couple of pageants and led her to the spot as Miss Ohio. She then competed in the 1986 Miss USA competition before her acting career.
