A huge redesign for Google Voice was recently hinted at. There are expectations that the VoIP calling service will receive changes and upgrades in its integration with Google's messaging apps.

Just recently, some users visiting their Google Voice accounts were greeted by a message that says, "The New Google Voice is here," accompanied by a "try now" link that leads to an address. However, accessing that link right now will only reload the existing Google Voice website and not any updates or changes to the calling service, The Verge reported.

A Google spokesperson told The Verge that the clickable link was a mistake but assured that they are working on "some updates to Google Voice right now." They assured that they will let the public know of any developments as soon as possible.

One of Google Voice's newest features is Number Porting, which allows users to use their long-time mobile number as their Google Voice number. Also, mobile phones under Sprint can now be integrated with Google Voice without the need of a new number.

It's still unknown what changes the upcoming Google Voice update will introduce. There are speculations that the update will roll out some changes to the Hangouts API, or integrate the calling service to Google's other messaging apps -- Allo and Duo -- more firmly. The tech giant tried to merge Hangouts with Google Voice in 2014.

A vision redesign on Google Voice is also expected, particularly on how the desktop site appears. The iOS app appears to be outdated too since it underwent minor bug fixes last June 2016, Engadget pointed out.

In other news, an email sent to developers recently teased about when Android Wear 2.0 will arrive. The next version of the wearable OS will roll out in early February, 9 to 5 Google reported.

Android Wear 2.0 aims to be a messaging, fitness and customization platform that stands independently from the smartphone. Existing smartwatches that will receive the new version of the wearable include the LG G Watch R; ASUS ZenWatch and ZenWatch 2; Moto 360 2nd gen and 360 Sport; Fossil's Q Founder, Wander and Marshal; Tag Heuer Connected; Casio WSD F10; and Huawei's Watch and Watch Ladies, among others, a separate report from 9 to 5 Google listed.
