Google Daydream VR users who spent $200 on an NBA League Pass can now stream live NBA content.

NextVR, who already offers basketball content on the Samsung Gear VR, can now stream to the Google Daydream VR as well. However, NBA live streaming is currently limited to the United States, though on-demand games including highlights are now available in Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia.

According to NextPowerUp, those who are subscribed to NBA League Pass can access a single 180-degree game each week, with feeds coming from eight RED-based cameras that are stationed around the court to give the user the best view.

It is required that users download the NextVR app and have compatible hardware for use on either platform for the Samsung Gear VR and the Google Daydream VR. Engadget reported that the experience would be the closest one could get to sitting courtside than watching the game on TV.

However, do note that not every game on the League Pass will be available in VR. Wired reported that only one game per week this season will be shot, produced and live-streamed for VR. Accordingly, schedules for games getting the live-VR treatment still need to be threshed out.

Each NextVR feed will feature a three-person anchor crew. A play-by-play person, an analyst, and a sideline reporter. The live feeds will also feature halftime content including a pregame package that is not part of the regular TV broadcasts.

Gear VR compatibility outside the US

During the launch, the VR content will only be available with Gear VR headsets and in the US. NextVR stated though that international viewing is currently being developed for several platforms. The results of these developments might make it in place before the end of the NBA season.

Earlier this year, NextVR streamlined their VR broadcast truck for onsite production. The company, thus far, has produced dozens of live and near-live immersive NBA videos, the US Open, concerts, international soccer matches, and even Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby.

Would be users are reminded that NextVR employs an 180-degree rig that focuses its attention right on the action. Each live feature is shot using a proprietary rig using eight high-end RED Epic Dragon camcorders, each capturing video with a 6K sensor.
