It is commonplace that tech companies push premier products at the forefront leaving their other offerings slightly on the sidelines that tend to overlook the lower model's capabilities as in the case of the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) that is overshadowed by the Samsung Galaxy S7 that enjoys a massive marketing campaign.

Price Points

The Samsung S-series is priced higher than the Samsung A-series, but the price difference allows alternatives users can exploit. Both phones are not short on features and carry the trademark of a premium Samsung phone, reported GSMArena. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is priced at $670 while the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is priced at $420.

Design

Both Samsung Galaxy S7 And Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) sport almost the same design, its physical aesthetics though is best left to the user to appreciate which one of the two looks better. Both phones come in the same metal frame and sandwiched Gorilla Glass.

Display

Both feature Super AMOLED Screens with scratch-resistant Corning Glass Gorilla 4. They both have light and proximity sensors with almost the same screen-to-body ratio of over 72 percent. Though the S7 packs 1440 x 2560 pixels in its 5.1-inch screen, the A5 (2016) packs a lower 1080 X 1920 pixels in its slightly larger 5.2-inch screen, according to PhoneArena.

Camera

The Samsung S7 features a 12MP rear camera to the A5's 13MP. However, the S7 features HDR capabilities both for pictures and video while the A5 (2016 does not. Both units sport a 5MP front facing camera.

Under the hood

Now this is where the units are truly set apart. In terms of processing power, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is just no match for the Samsung Galaxy S7. A5 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 with an Adreno 405 GPU while S7 uses Exynos 8 Octa 8890 supported by an ARM Mali-T880 MP12 GPU. S7 has an internal storage of 32 GB as opposed to the A5 (2016) meager 16GB.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is for people who want a quality phone but are weary of flagships that are loaded with little improvements year after year. In terms of design and quality, the A5 is not far behind even with the speed advantage the S7 has. One other feature is that the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) can outlast battery life of many flagships, the S7 included, and, it can be charged faster.
