Moto Z and Moto Z Play are reportedly tested by Lenovo for ZUK's custom software called ZUI. According to leaks, this move from Lenovo shows the complete removal of stock android experience on their smartphones in China where Google is banned. Will they ever come up with an iOS-like environment soon? See full details here!

Lenovo Ported ZUI to Moto Z and Moto Z Play Sold in China

It is a common knowledge that Google is banned in China, thus, having smartphones that runs pure Android is not going to work. For this reason, Lenovo who acquired Motorola Company has reportedly conducted a beta testing on Moto Z and Moto Z Play handsets sold in China with ZUK's custom software called ZUI, according to Android Headlines.

ZUK is a smartphone manufacturer based in China (backed by Lenovo) who has introduced ZUI 2.0 and ZUI 2.5 long time ago, an Android 6 Marshmallow and Android 7 Nougat-based custom software, respectively. The recently released ZUK Edge is the company's flagship smartphone for 201666 that runs the latest version of their custom software out of the box.

Accordingly, this is an indication that Moto Z and Moto Z Play handsets sold in China will run ZUK's custom software called ZUI 2.5, if the leaked about Lenovo beta testing is proven true. While this information has not been confirmed by Lenovo, Moto Z and Moto Z Play handsets from other countries run an almost-stock android mobile operating system.

What to Expect from ZUI on Moto Phones?

On the other hand, ZUI is deemed fit for Moto phones because of its customized features that are presumed to be working on every Moto phones specifically, Moto Z and Moto Z Play. However, integrating ZUK's custom software to Motorola phones and completely removing stock android experience is likely to taint the "bloat-free software" image of Lenovo's smartphone business if the company should decide to run ZUI to Motorola phones across the globe, according to GSM Arena
