Artificial intelligence has been a source of amazement and curiosity for human beings as we imagine how machines can develop human-like sentience and intelligence. Not only were writers captivated by that thought but scientists as well, who have managed to develop AI by leaps and bounds. On the other hand, there are also intellectuals who expressed their fear if artificial intelligence will be brought to the same level as humans. But how should we really feel about artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence can greatly impact our society as a whole in any aspect whether it be in medicine or in economics. That AI can make the quality of life much better is what motivates a lot of AI proponents to keep on pushing for a stronger AI system. Some scientists say that it is possible but there is also a possibility that an intelligence explosion will occur as these machines program and re-program themselves to become much better than us. If this happens, humans might not be able to keep up.

Machine learning works typically like the human brain where years of repetitive learning process can develop to a more complex set of actions and thinking. By feeding a simple algorithm and feeding it into the computer, the machine will naturally learn through 'experiences.' As it learns, it eliminates the need for human control. Thus, in the quest for a higher and stronger AI, there is a fear for the loss of human functionality.

When a much more intelligent species detects that the other one is weaker, it will seize control from that weaker species. More so, there is no way we can detect how AI will behave if it becomes more intelligent than us. Therefore, this concern for artificial intelligence has nothing to do with malevolence but the fear of losing control.

Will AI rebel against its creators or will it coexist and merge with us? Will we be able to control it? These are just the pervading questions now which will probably have an answer only when we achieve it.
