LG Ultrafine 5K Display Supports Older Macs Too

While it is already clear that 2016 MacBook Pros can fully utilized the 5120 x 2880 resolution of LG Ultrafine 5K display, users of older macs are still asking whether the newest Apple display monitor can fully maximized the said resolution too. It seems like the answer is "no"; however, according to 9to5 Mac, an Apple Support document reveals its compatibility with the older versions of mac but in a low resolution output.

Mac Pro (Late 2013), MacBook Pro (Mid 2014, 15-inch Retina) and later, MacBook Pro (Early 2014, 13-inch Retina) and later, iMac (Late 2014, 27-inch Retina) and later, iMac (Late 2015, 21.5-inch Retina), iMac (Late 2015, 21.5-inch), MacBook Air (Early 2015, 13-inch) and MacBook Air (Early 2015, 11-inch) can stream 3840 x 2160 at the speed of 60Hz. On the other hand, Mac Mini (Late 2014) can stream 3200 x 1800 at the speed of 60Hz according to Apple Support.

Users Says LG Ultrafine 5K Display Looks Uglier Compared to Previous Apple Monitors

While other members of MacRumors forum deliberately voiced out on how amazing LG Ultrafine 5K Display is, others have also expressed their disappointment on the physical looks of the monitor. According to a forum member named Wiesenlooser, the current display looks ten times uglier than the monitors from 10 years ago which he posted alongside his comment.

LG Ultrafine 5K Display has built-in microphone, camera, stereo speakers, VESA mount and USB-C ports with a speed of 5 Gbps. According to MacRumors, the monitor is currently for sale with an introductory price of $974 and will increase to $1,299.95 beyond March 31.
