With the year coming to an end, fans were treated with vast numbers of games ranging from different genres to a multitude of platforms. From competitive first-person shooters like "Overwatch" and stealth games like "Dishonored 2" to farming simulators, such "Stardew Valley," a lot of titles were picked by developers as the best games of 2016 in their respective categories. Moreover, one of the contending games "Firewatch" was reported to be working on the PS4 frame rate issues experienced by its players.

In an attempt to know what developers thought were the best games of 2016, The Guardian went on to ask 50 of their favorite developers, which included veterans in the gaming industry, to decide which title topped the rest in their respective categories.

To kick things off, "Dishonored 2" were picked among others to be one of the best blockbuster games released this 2016. Developers such as Karla Zimonja (known for "Bioshock 2") and Anne Lewis, who worked on "Doom," went on to praise the game for its compelling characters and the stealth gameplay that it offers.

As for multiplayer games, Both "Overwatch" and "Overcooked" were highly mentioned as one of the best titles released this year to play with friends. The former was said to have earned the vote of Karen Stanley, known for working on "PlayStation VR Worlds." She went on to cite her numerous heart-stopping moments in playing the game.

As for role-playing games, it seems that a lot of the developers have chosen "Stardew Valley" as one of the best games of 2016. From its nostalgic pixel-art to its in-depth gameplay, developers, like Sally Blake (Ubisoft's "The Division"), praised the amount of work put in this indie game.

When it comes to games having the best narrative stories, the source took note that majority of the developers have chosen "Firewatch" as the best game released this year. From its lush wilderness to its compelling narrative, developers have praised the artwork and story that this game boasts.

Speaking of "Firewatch," it was recently reported that the developers are continuously

working on resolving the frame rate issues that some players claimed to have experience while playing the game on the PS4, VG24/7 learned.

"Firewatch" developer, Campo Santo, went on to reassure fans, via a post on Reddit, that they are working non-stop and currently in communications with both Sony and Unity to continue optimizing the game's performance on the PS4.

Albeit the frame rate issue the game is currently posed with, it seems that fans can look forward to "Firewatch" improving more in the coming future.
