Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics have been collaborating in the production of the latter's Galaxy S8 series, which will sport Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 mobile chips along side with Samsung's 10nm FinFET process technology.

According to Today, Qualcomm's next flagship SoC Snapdragon 835 will be succeeding Snapdragon 820 and 821 chipsets' release earlier this year. The said chipset is a significant version as it stands as the first chipset to feature a 10nm process technology.

With the new chipset building a better functionality and improved utilization of network speeds on mobile devices, Qualcomm and Samsung have confirmed a tie-up on its production, with the Galaxy S8 being the first smartphone to sport the Snapdragon 835 chipset.

In addition, it is a continuing custom for Samsung to provide both Exynos and Snapdragon versions for its Galaxy S-series releases. The said collaboration is shared by Keith Kressin, senior VP of product management for Qualcomm Technologies, saying "We are excited to continue working together with Samsung in developing products that lead the mobile industry."

Samsung started the mass production for its 10nm technology in October, which guarantees mobile phones up to 30 percent increase in area efficiency, 40 percent lower power consumption and 27 percent higher performance compared to the 14nm Snapdragon 821.

Using the 10nm FinFET encapsulated in Samsung's chassis, the Snapdragon 835 processor will offer a smaller chip footprint, giving OEMs more usable space inside upcoming products to support larger batteries or slimmer designs, Digitimes reported.

"Less space doesn't mean less processing horsepower, however. The 10nm node will help Snapdragon 835 processors achieve high-quality power efficiency and performance while opening up territory for new mobile experiences," Qualcomm said in a blog post.

The Snapdragon 835 will also be introducing Quick Charge 4.0, providing up to a 50 percent battery charge in about 15 minutes via a USB-C port. Qualcomm said the feature will work on Android 7.0, but Google has recommended the use of standard USB chargers, which can be slower.

The first lot of smartphones to feature Snapdragon 835 is expected to show up at Mobile World Congress scheduled for February 2017. However, with the chipset replacing the 821 processor, rumors suggest that the likes of One Plus 3, Google Pixel, Pixel XL and One Plus 3T might get the said upgrade.
