Rapidly gaining ground, digital assistants are fast becoming a staple in the mobile industry. The latest entrant joining the fray is the Samsung Galaxy S8, which will offer an AI-powered digital assistant of its own.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to roll out next spring and it will finally come with an AI digital assistant. It will join the fray of other device manufacturers who has digital assistants such as Microsoft with Cortana, Google who has Google Assistant, and Apple with Siri.

Though not much of a surprise after Samsung acquired Viv Labs in back October, it was a given the company is heading towards this direction. Incidentally, Viv Labs is also responsible for developing Apple's Siri. Based on reports, the Galaxy S8 will have a smart digital assistant based on the technology.

According to Samsung, by simply asking Galaxy S8's virtual assistant, users can get services such as food deliveries or perform other tasks without passing through a third-party application. The service will also be available in future Samsung consumer electronics products, such as refrigerators, ABC News reported.

According to Samsung's executives and Viv Labs, Samsung's digital assistant will be an "open AI platform" which will allow third-party developers to offer their services through the Galaxy S8's new AI platform, according to CNBC.

Samsung lost an estimated $5.3 billion when it discontinued its Galaxy Note 7 nearly wiping out the company's last quarterly profit when they recalled the defective Note 7 twice. The success of the Galaxy S8, when it is launched next spring, could revive Samsung's tarnished mobile business reputation brought about by the Note 7's failure. As of this date, Samsung still could not figure out what really went wrong with the Note 7.

The company, as of the moment, declined to provide additional information, other than what is already stated, on which tasks the Galaxy S8 will perform and provide through its new AI feature rumored to be called "Bixby."
