With news that "Divergent: Ascendant" movie is being made for television instead of a theatrical release, many of its original cast members have opened up about their disappointment and disinterest in continuing with the project.

Lead star Shailene Woodley, who plays the show's main heroine Tris Prior, revealed she was shocked by Lionsgate's announcement about making "Divergent: Ascendant" into a TV movie. According to Screen Rant, the actress found out about the studio's decision from the press and that she wasn't personally notified.

"Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn't sign up to be in a television show," Woodley stated. "Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I'm not necessarily interested in doing a television show."

Woodley's "Divergent" co-star Miles Teller also wasn't very happy with Lionsgate decision to shift gears and opt for a TV movie release of "Divergent: Ascendant."

"We all signed on for it in hopes that it'd be released in theaters, and we all had every intention of finishing [the franchise]," Teller told The Hollywood Reporter. "It caught us all by surprise."

When asked if he was willing to reprise his role as Peter in the final movie in the "Divergent" franchise, Teller said, "At this point, it's a different set of circumstances. We'll see. I honestly haven't talked to anybody."

It was Ansel Elgort's statement, however, that implied that the rest of the "Divergent" cast members are not interested in reprising their roles in a TV movie adaption. Elgort said it is saddening that they weren't able to say a proper goodbye to one another as they were all expecting to work on a "Divergent: Ascendant" film. From this viewpoint, it is evident that even Theo James, who's going to appear in the upcoming "Underworld: Blood Wars," is also not returning as Four.

The poor performance of "Divergent: Allegiant" in the box office was cited as one of the reasons why Lionsgate pulled the plug from the franchise. Aside from the proposed TV movie release, the entire "Divergent" story is said to be rebooted in a TV series.
