Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd announced that it is introducing the first 8GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM package.

Samsung is introducing the new 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package, which is expected to greatly improve mobile user experiences. The new package is aimed at those using a large screen, Ultra HD devices. Utilizing 4 of the newest 16-gigabit LPDDR4 memory chips, the 8GB mobile DRAM package was manufactured with advanced 10nm process technology.

The DDR4 DRAM for PC's works at 2,133 Mbps per pin, while the new 8GB LPDDR4 works twice as fast at 4,266 Mbps. Running on a 64-bit (x64) wide memory bus, this translates to transmitting over 34GBs of data per second. What this means is by equipping tablets with 8GB of LPDDR4, it will meet the escalating needs of devices with dual cameras, enable virtual machine operation and provide smoother 4K UHD video playback.

Samsung's Newsroom said that the new 8GB LPDDR4 mobile package take full advantage of next-generation mobile devices to operate at high capacity. Its 10nm-class process technology coupled with Samsung's proprietary low-power circuit design provides much more efficient power consumption. It doubles the capacity of the company's 20nm-class 4GB DRAM while consuming the same amount of power.

Back in 2014, Samsung introduced the 4GB LPDDR4 module prior to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 in April 2015r. The flagship unit was released but didn't feature the memory module 4 months after its introduction. This might likely be the case with the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is rumored to be released in 2017.

However, TechRadar reported that among the Galaxy S8 and Note 8, they said that the launch of the devices might be delayed for up to two weeks as the company's engineers are still trying to solve the Note 7's battery heating problem.

The same publication added that the Galaxy S8 is supposed to ditch a flat version of the device and go in favor of a curvy design, a boost to RAMand two cameras on the back. So we will just have to wait for final spec confirmation for Samsung if the new 8GB LPDDR4 will be outfitted to the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8.
