It looks like consumers of tablet computers will soon have something to cheer about as Microsoft has confirmed the Surface 5 release date for this month.

Packed with an array of awe-inspiring features, the latest Surface Pro 5 has long been rumored to arrive this year. The Surface Pro lineup from Microsoft has been deemed as MacBook Pro killer by several sources.

Citing the huge success of Surface 4, it's hardly surprising that the demand of Surface 5 is constantly rising. Probably to cash in on the rising popularity of the tablet, Microsoft has announced that the much lauded Surface 5 will be unveiled during their Windows 10 launch event slated to take place this October. There are still reports that suggest that the device will be in stores by fall 2017.

Microsoft will introduce several different models for the Surface 5, from a basic Core i3, up to a Core i7, coupled with plenty of RAM and internal storage, Tech Advisor reported. The Surface Pro 5 is said to sport the similar display as the 2016 MacBook, but with a stronger processor and most likely a lighter build than the Mac. In addition, this top-notch device is expected to be much thinner than its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4.

The impending Surface Pro 5 is said to be the Microsoft tab device to implement the USB-C standards that expedites charging as well as data transfer. Furthermore, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to come out with a better camera as well as some minor component tweaks, according to The Country Caller.

One of the most talked about updates is the Surface Pen. The stylus paired with Surface Pro tablet will undergo a radical overhaul. The revamped Surface Pen is said to charge wirelessly when attached to the table via magnet. The current Surface Pen attaches magnetically, but it is not rechargeable. It is powered by an alkaline AAAA battery.

According to latest reports, the Surface Pro 5 will have sixth-generation Skylake chip, rumors indicate it will the next generation codenamed Kaby Lake.
