The LGBT rights in the United States vary on a state-by-state basis. Currently, 13 states including Washington, D.C. allows gay marriage, while some states offer civil unions or some of the legal benefits and protections of marriage.

Recently, Princeton Review rolled out the list of colleges with least-LGBT friendly campuses based on a nation-wide survey. The American based consulting company arrived at the annual rankings through questionnaire responses from 122,000 students from around the country. The students were asked about 80 questions covering a wide-range of topics including the school's academics, administration, student body, and themselves. The responses were then converted into quantitative data.

According to the Huffington Post, several Christian colleges made the cut. Grove City College, a Christian liberal arts college of about 2,500 students secured the top spot in the list of least LGBT-friendly campuses. The Pittsburgh College dethroned last year's winner, Wheaton College which took the fourth spot.

The University of Rhode Island is the only public colleges to feature in the top 10. Experts were surprised to learn that the land grant and sea Grant University claimed the ninth spot in the list despite the state's approval to same-sex marriage on Aug 1.

Around three-fourth of the colleges in the top 10 are located in states that do not allow gay marriage.
