You may know Matthew Chandler Fox from the hit television show "Party of Five" for his role as Charlie Salinger. Or maybe you have seen him on "Lost" as Jack Shephard. But not a lot of people know that he is actually a graduate from Columbia University.

This Pennsylvania local grew up with a teacher for a mother and a father who was a consultant for an oil company. At a young age, he was surrounded by longhorn cattles and horses in Wyoming.

To get his higher education, he enrolled a four year course in Columbia. He then graduated from Columbia University in 1989 and he majored in Economics, cites KR CR Tv. However, he did not pursue his degree as a profession. When he was 25 years old, he made his television debut on Fox during an episode of "Wings." And that was the start of his acting career. He dabbled in multiple supporting roles until 1994, when Fox took him in as Charlie Salinger. Charlie was the eldest of five siblings in the hit 90's television show "Party of Five."

It is interesting to note that in 1996, People Magazine honored him as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People In the World. And even though "Party of Five" was canceled in 2000, he did not stop acting. He joined many shows after "Party of Five" but his next big role was in "Lost." If you followed the series, he was Dr. Jack Shephard, the dedicated surgeon on the show.

Because of his role in "Lost," he was nominated for a Golden Globe. But even through all of that, he stated several times that he is done with television. His last acting career held firm on "Lost." But that was only in television. He never mentioned he was done with movies. Because in 2011 he starred in several movies such as "World War Z" with Brad Pitt.
