Microsoft has remained mum about speculations hinting that the Redmond-based tech firm is currently gearing up to launch the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2, but rumor mills have continued to hazard their guesses about the specs for the purported devices.

If rumors doing rounds online proved to be true, the Surface Pro 5 will come with either Intel's sixth or seventh-generation Kaby Lake processor, an enhanced battery, and a USB Type-C port. Rumors are also running rampant that the high-end tablet/laptop hybrid will boast a 2K screen. But that's not all; a model that supports 4K graphics will also be in the offing. As far as its memory is concerned, recent rumors claim that it will be upgradable up to 16 GB of RAM, International Business Times reported.

Other components rumored to be upgraded include the phone camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the Surface Pen, which is said to pack a rechargeable battery which can be charged wirelessly.

The Surface Book 2 will mirror the key specs of the Surface Pro 5 including the seventh-generation Kaby Lake processor which supports 3D and 4K, as well as virtual reality displays. Moreover, the device will also pack 16 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB (terabyte) of internal storage capacity, ThunderBolt 3 ports, and USB Type-C port connectors, TechRadar reported.

Rumors are rife about the Surface devices coming with the Windows 10 Redstone 2 operating system, and carrying a price tag in the $900 to $1500 range.

It was previously speculated that the Surface devices will be launched alongside Windows 10's second major update in Spring 2017.

Last month, a developer named Shubhan Chemburkar posted a photo of a wall in Microsoft's building 88, showing a Surface placeholder with the words "coming soon" and "2016."

Interestingly, the photo also shows three devices which say "2017" on them. Aside from the purported Surface Phone, it looks like Microsoft is gearing up for the next versions of the Surface Book and Surface Pro for 2017.
