Optimistic Android fans believe that release date of the Google Nexus 2016 flagship phones is round the corner and quite a few even reckon that the highly-anticipated phones will run on Android 7.0 Nougat. While avid fans continue waiting with bated breath for more details about the device's release date, specs et al, it looks like one more device from the tech firm is slated to make an appearance following the next Nexus launch.

If reports doing rounds are anything to go by, this could be the rumored Nexus 7 tablet from Huawei.

Several reports dub HTC as manufacturer of the two Nexus phones slated to hit the store shelves soon, and a recently-surfaced report by Gadget 360 further cements such scenario. Rumor mills have been swirling speculations around the Google Nexus 2016 phones hinting HTC as maker of two devices i.e. a regular 5-inch handset and a 5.5-inch phablet that will outplace last year's Nexus phones.

Furthermore, the report claims that the impending devices will lock horns with Apple's flagship iPhones. Apparently, Google is rolling out these devices as premium smartphones packed with awe-inspiring overall experience, in a bid to challenge the iPhone.

It won't be surprising if the next Nexus devices from Google turn out to be worthy rivals to the Industry leader, especially considering that the phones are likely to boast of exceptional build and design as a slew of leaked renders and prototypes have been hinting for the past few weeks. As far as the innards are concerned, the phones are said to pack features that are nothing short of exceptional, further accentuated by Snapdragon 820 chip and 4 GB RAM.

In terms of internal storage, Google's flagship phones will come in two variants: basic 32 GB and a mammoth 128 GB.

The upcoming Android smartphones will reportedly do away with the Nexus brand and will just sport the G logo, which obviously allude to the Google brand. A slew of earlier reports echoed the same claims, further hinting that Google's upcoming phone will boast exclusive Android Nougat features - with one-of-a-kind launcher, user interface and a never-before-seen animated home button.

If the report proved to be true, will Google drop its plan to release a Nexus device this year?

Not likely, as a report by BGR pointed to speculations centering on a second Nexus that Huawei is rumored to make for Google. The device is said to be the second coming of the popular Nexus 6P and the Chinese smartphone maker even confirmed that indeed another Nexus in the works.

Provided the report is accurate, the device will probably end up as the 7-inch Nexus 7 compact tablet and is likely to be the larger version of the Huawei Nexus 6P. The device release date is slated to happen following the HTC Sailfish and Marlin launch, perhaps slated between September and October this year.

In other news, a brand-new smartphone from Huawei has been certified by TENAA (Chinese telecommunication authority). Although the listing does not divulge the device's specifications, the images unveil a design that have earmarks of Google's Nexus 6P smartphone, which was also manufactured by Huawei, GSM Arena reported.

Rumors are running rampant that the device is the Huawei Mate S2.

The handset in question is said to be powered by Kirin 960 chipset and feature a 5.9-inch full HD display with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal memory. It will either sport a 16-megapixel or 12-megapixel rear unit and an 8-megapixel front camera. The handset will pack Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

The phone is rumored to hit the store shelves early next month.
