Apple is gearing up to take the wraps off its next-gen iPhone 7 smartphone in September, and rumors doing rounds hint that the handset will feature a pressure-sensitive home button - contrary to a conventional physical click - a dual-lens camera system, and will dump the standard headphone jack.

The Cupertino-based tech firm is hard at work revamping the home button to use pressure-sensitive technology, Bloomberg reported Monday, August 8, citing sources close to the matter.

The sources reportedly divulged that the iPhone 7 as well as its bigger variant, the iPhone 7 Plus will sport identical design as that of its precursors iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The purported smartphone's most preeminent features will include the dual-camera system on the larger iPhone, an overhauled home button that reacts to pressure with haptic feedback and the elimination of the handset's headphone jack.

Rumors have been running rampant teasing these features for quite a long time.

Earline in June, an alleged image of the iPhone 7 giving a sneak peek of the front panel of the rumored handset surfaced online. The leaked image teased a revamped home button, which looked flat and indicated that the tech firm was gearing up to house a pressure-sensitive button. However, since the images were quite blurred, their credibility could not be established.

Contrary to offering a physical button that a user can press down to trigger an action, the looming iPhone 7 is slated to offer a non-physical button that vibrates to let a user know he/she has touched it.

The latest report echoes the long-running speculations hinting that Apple's next iPhone will boast only basic changes. However, in the wake of iPhone sales declining over the past few quarters, the smartphone mogul will have to come up with something substantial to draw in buyers, CNet reported.

Another notable change will be that Apple is slated to dump the two innermost antenna lines, which can be seen on the rear of the present-gen iPhones.

A slew of reports indicate that Apple will be promoting Lightning and Bluetooth-supported headphones. The elimination of the jack will pave the way for another speaker into the handset, which will further enhance the sound and volume quality of the device's speaker system.

As far as the dual-camera lens system is concerned, several tech publications reported that the two sensors will have the ability to pick up colors in a peculiar way. Besides, they will be able to shoot pictures in tandem with each other, which can be blended to create a single image.

Citing these awe-inspiring features of the dual-camera lens, the detailing of the photos will be improved abundantly, besides enhancing the quality of images shot in low-light conditions.

Apple has remained mum regarding these rumors and has neither confirmed nor denied them. It remains to be seen if these features will even see the light of day when the iPhone 7 finally hits the store shelves this year.
