The University of Louisville has offered a scholarship to Trinity High School sophomore defensive end Stephen Herron, becoming the first college football team to do so.

Apparently, this initial gesture from hometown Cardinals is something Herron will remember for a long time, even if his list of offers duplifies in the years to come.

Herron, a 6' 4," 255 lbs pass-rushing specialist, who played at New Albany High School as a freshman, is slated to be transferred to Trinity.

Expressing his gratitude, Herron said he appreciated University of Louisville for noticing his ability and being the first to offer him a scholarship, Courier-Journal reported.

Herron, who grew up in New Albany but is moving to live with his father in Louisville said he was excited to get his first offer from a school that's located right in his backyard. He noted that it didn't really matter if someone is a Louisville fan now as everybody who lives here has grown up a Louisville fan at some point in their life.

Herron noted that his father is an avid Louisville fan, who attended University of Louisville's business school.

Herron is evolving as one of state of Kentucky's best prospect in 2019 class.

Following U of L's scholarship offer after a camp held on June 11, Herron added offers from Indiana and Tennessee. Citing his excellent performance at camp, Notre Dame too is assessing him closely.

Herron was there at Alabama's spring game, and he believes that he may be able to bag an offer from the University of Kentucky, a team he looked up to as a youngster. He is scheduled to visit there in July.

Herron's lists of schools to visit include Michigan and Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, Missouri, South Carolina and Auburn, USA Today High School Sports reported.

Herron's trainer at the Aspirations gym in Jeffersonville, Chris Vaughn said he will ultimately have more than 30 offers.

Herron affirmed that he will not go in for a college until at least his junior year, but at the same time noted that the University of Louisville will continue to remain in the mix during his recruitment.

During last season at New Albany when he was named to The Courier-Journal's Southern Indiana all-area second team, Herron blocked three kicks, had 75 tackles, including five sacks.
