District Attorney Jerry Jones confirmed that the charges against University of Alabama football players, Cam Robinson and Laurence "Hootie" Jones, have been dropped.

District Attorney Jones cited that the evidence was not sufficient in proving who among the defendants was in possession of the gun and the drugs, thus, Jones dropped the charges against the University of Alabama's football players.

University of Alabama's offensive lineman Robinson and reserve defensive back Jones, were seized by legal authority in the early morning of May 17, for the charge of illegal possession of a stolen weapon in the presence of illegal drugs.

Robinson and Jones were both apprehended in their hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, ESPN reported.

District Attorney Jones stated that the main reason he dropped the charges is that, Jones is not willing to ruin the lives of two young men - who have spent their teenage years working and sweating while other people is in the air conditioning, KNOE reported.

Based on the  police report, an officer approached the vehicle of the football players and smelled marijuana. The report also claimed that a bag of marijuana and a handgun were spotted, and a stolen firearm was discovered under the passenger seat.

Allegedly, Robinson was in the driver's seat while Jones was his passenger. Robinson faced a felony in connection with the stolen-firearms, while the other charges for both of them were misdemeanors.

Alabama coach Nick Saban stated a couple of times that he'd wait for the legal process before making a decision to punish his two players, WHNT reported.

However, Robinson is an All-Southeastern Conference left tackle for the defending national champions. Robinson was a high NFL draft pick during the player's junior season. While Jones had played sparingly in University of Alabama. And Jones was known as one of the top safety football player coming out of high school, The Advocate reported.
