Simply Lite Brand Dark Chocolate Recalled Due To Mislabeling

By

Simply Natural Foods is voluntarily recalling its 3 oz Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bar due to mislabeling, The Almagest reported.

Testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration indicated that high levels of milk protein - a major allergen - were found in the product. While the label of the product warns that it may contain traces of milk, it is not declared as an ingredient, FDA officials said in a statement.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk protein may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The affected products are packaged in plastic foil packaging containing 85gms (3oz) of dark chocolate with the lot numbers 01182015A and 01192015A.

Food allergy symptoms typically appear within minutes or develop up to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which they are allergic. Allergic reactions range from mild symptoms to a life-threatening whole-body allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Symptoms can include hives, flushed skin or rash.

No illnesses or injury of any sort have been reported.

The recall is being initiated in an "excess of caution, Simply Natural Foods said in a statement.
