What is Thyme?

Thyme is any member of the genus Thymus of aromatic recurrent evergreen herbs related to the mint family called Lamiaceae. Oregano and thyme are relatives and that is why the scent is quite similar. Thyme is usually used for culinary, medicinal and ornamental purposes. 

Thyme Essential Oil

The most common form of thyme for treatment purposes is to extract its essential oil. Thyme essential oil is used to improve circulation, remove toxins from the body, and alleviate stress. Thyme essential oil came from the extract of a plant called Thymus vulgaris. It has a lot of healing properties and known for its topically and aromatic scent. 

Uses of Thyme Essential Oil

  • Stops Acne

Thyme oil is effective at reducing acne-causing bacteria on skin pores. It can help stop the appearance of acne due to dirt clogging within your pores. It has the same anti-inflammatory properties found in oregano oil. 

  • Prevent Hair Loss

Thyme oil can be used to prevent hair loss. Mixing thyme oil with other essential oil and massaging it to the affected area can activate the scalp to grow hair again.

  • Improves Blood Circulation

The invigorating properties of thyme essential oil help to boost blood circulation throughout the body. Increased body circulation can promote healing as it provides sufficient oxygen, protects the heart, and reduces the risk of a blood clot.

  • Boosts Immune System Function

Thyme essential oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help strengthen the immune system function and fight damaging pathogens. Its antioxidant properties help the body's system to fight free radicals and reduce the risk of diseases.

You can diffuse thyme essential oil throughout the entire home to boost the immune system. On the other hand, this can also be mixed with a carrier oil and use it as a massage oil.

  • Reduces the Appearance of Scars

When used topically, thyme essential oil can reduce the visibility of scars, as well as acne and other sores. To reduce the appearance of scars you can mix a few drops of essential oil with beeswax or carrier oil. Then, simply apply it to the affected area.


  • Treats Skin Conditions and Minor Wounds

Since it thyme essential oil can help reduce the appearance of scars, it can also fasten the healing process of minor wounds. This essential oil can protect your skin from infection and it can treat rashes. The antiseptic properties of thyme essential oil are very useful for minor cuts, scrapes, bites, and burns. You can mix a few drops of thyme oil with a carrier oil and apply it right after you take a bath so the skin can absorb it easily.

With thyme oil's antioxidant properties it can reduce signs of aging such ass fine line and wrinkles. You can make your own thyme balm by mixing a few drops of essential oil with beeswax.
