Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 Modem Review

With its earnest desire to bridge the gap between the current LTE network and multi-gigabit 5G New Radio network, Qualcomm has come up with another modem called Snapdragon X20. According to PC Mag, the new LTE modem chip can surpass the traditional 1 Gbps and can push up to 1.2 Gbps on every US' carrier spectrum.

With this regard, Qualcomm's Senior Vice President for Product Management Serge Willenegger said that to be able to address the demand on 5G network, the Snapdragon X20 chip needs 10MHz licensed spectrum to be able to get gigabit speeds. Aside from that, incorporating the Licensed Assisted Access to Wi-Fi airwaves is another way to aggregate the speed.

Intel XMM 7560 Gigabit LTE modem is reportedly faster than Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 modem because aside from undergoing the 14nm manufacturing process, it also offers flexibility and supports 5x carrier with combined downlink of 100MHz and 3x carrier for uplink upto 60MHz. Aside from networking, Intel's modem also contributes to extend device's battery life may it be smartphones or tablet.

Devices to Sport 5G LTE Network

Since Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 is patterned after the chipset used in Galaxy S7, it is heavily anticipated to be included in Samsung Galaxy S8. On the other hand, Apple iPhone 8 is expected to use Intel XMM 7560 Gigabit LTE Network.
