The 2017 Grammy nominations announced last Tuesday, Dec. 6, on CBS' "This Morning" pitted the millennials against each other with Beyoncé having the most nominations and also the oldest in the bunch. Moreover the 59th annual Grammy nominations are stepping away from the tradition of career-recognition by snubbing Sting, Paul Simon and having fewer than five nominations for the late David Bowie in the top categories

The 2017 Grammy nominations are as varied and diverse as it gets with the top contenders led by Grammy award winner, Beyoncé, with nine nominations and R&B and hip hop artists like Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake with eight nominations each.

Chance the Rapper is nominated for the first time with seven nominations while Grammy award winner and veteran Adele has five nominations for her album "25."

The 2017 Grammy nominations have been dominated by millennials and Beyoncé becomes the oldest top nominee at 35-year-old according to the LA Times. The answer may lie on the submitted entries where younger artists may comprise a significant number out of the 21,000 recordings submitted for this year.

It could also be the Recording Academy is stepping away from age-old tradition of career-recognition and getting more Grammy nominations as package. In the past, the likes of Carlos Santa will automatically get a nod from the members, which may not pose an objective judgment of the kind of music offered.

The 2017 Grammy nominations announce early this week is indicative of the changing taste of members, who rely solely on the musicality rather than the personality of the artist. It seems like this is the kind of growth and maturity that many artists in the past asked for particularly those who think the Grammys should not be the end-goal of every musician.

Many hip-hop artists made it into the 2017 Grammy nominations announced by Meghan Trainor, who was last year's biggest winner. The academy had 13,000 members who voted for all 84 categories.

What is new in the 2017 Grammy nominations is that the Recording Academy imposed a few changes for the 2017 Grammy Awards by considering streaming-only music, which only goes to show that the Academy recognizes the increasing demand for Music online. The Best New Artist category also allowed artists without a full length album, but was able to release five singles at minimum, CNN reported.
