Zealous "GTA" fans have been waiting with bated breath for an official "GTA 6" release date announcement, but Rockstar Games has remained mum and has not divulged any sort of details regarding when the much anticipated video game title will hit the store shelves.

Nevertheless, this hasn't stopped enthusiastic fans from hazarding a guess that the game is likely to release in near future. These speculations could stem from a recently released fiscal report by Take-Two Interactive that indicated Rockstar had a new project in development, according to reports on Neurogadget.

Although, the report did not spill the beans about the ongoing project, nor did it confirm whether the reference was to an imminent DLC for "GTA 5," rumors doing rounds hint that the project in question could possibly be the highly anticipated sixth installment of the fan-favorite "Grand Theft Auto" series.

Rumor mills have been swirling speculations around "GTA 6," hinting that the upcoming action-adventure video game will make an appearance later this week at the Sony PlayStation event. However, the event is likely to center on Sony's new PlayStation 4 Neo and PlayStation Slim consoles, CNet reported.

Sony clearly plans to keep details of both the aforementioned consoles under wraps, but information about both consoles surfaced online week before the official launch in New York on September 7.

Nor prizes for guessing, zealous gamers are super excited about the launch of the two consoles, and GTA's huge fanbase is also hopeful for some sort of news regarding the purported title, which is highly likely considering that "Grand Theft Auto" has been an apex series for the PlayStation consoles.

Meanwhile, a slew of new reports suggest that "GTA 6" will hit the store shelves sometime in 2018, which is in accordance with the 4-5 year gap period the series ideally follows.

Several fans believe that the video game will be based in 1960s London, while others claim it will be set across various American cities or probably move to Tokyo.

Rumors are rife about the game hinting that it will feature Virtual Reality (VR) support and could be included in a console bundle either for the next generation or the impending Xbox Scorpio and PS4 Neo.
