The Los Angeles Clippers are on a pursuit of acquiring the 7x All Star and former league MVP Kevin Durant, as NBA's free agency nears.

After the early exit of the playoffs last year, the Clippers' hopes of bringing in the chip botched again. But that doesn't stop them from trying and continue to lean forward toward their goals. Beginning July 1, teams can formally reach out and talk to the free agents about their desire to have their services, and for the Clippers, their plans are clear, ESPN reported.

Convincing KD to sign will be their top priority. After that, re-signing their own key pieces in free agency and lastly, filling in the gap once everything is settled in the market.

The team scheduled to meet Durant on the first day of free agency in New York, sending in Coach Doc Rivers and Team owner Steve Ballmer to test their luck on the former MVP.

Aside from the team resides on the great city of Los Angeles, they can also highlight the possibility of playing alongside their own version of big three, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, which can be a key for their championship aspirations.

Upon trying to acquire KD, the team has multiple options to discuss. Either agreeing in a sign-and-trade with the Thunder by trading one of their "Big Three" or trading some of their players such as Paul Pierce and J.J Redick and renouncing their draft rights to Brice Johnson to make the most competitive offer possible, The Orange County Register reported.

If the Clippers and Durant deal doesn't work, the team moves on upon re-signing their own free agents. Having the most of their salary cap they can keep most of their key pieces together especially to their top three free agents in Jeff Green, Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers and can still add some pieces to upgrade their current roster.

Even though the team has the ability to pay Green, Crawford and Rivers, there are still no assurance of securing their three free agents.

The team could use one of its cap exceptions if they exceed the cap space re-signing their own players. With those exceptions, the non-taxpayer mid-level and the bi-annual, could be needed to fill out the rotation.
