The Company That Sued Apple Inc. For Patent Infringement is Jus Another Patent Troll!

By

The company in China, Shenzhen Baili, that filed a lawsuit against Apple appeared to be just another patent troll.

Shenzhen Baili just won a patent lawsuit against Apple Incorporated in Beijing's Intellectual Property Office. The Chinese company claimed that Apple violated the patent of its 100c smartphone in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. However, reports says that the company "barely exists".

As a response to the lawsuit filed by Shenzhen Baili, the Wall Street Journal conducted an investigation with the company. They also investigated the parent company, Digione. According to the report, Digione stopped the smartphone market in China for over a year already. Despite this, Digione lawyer, Andy Yang, claims that the company is still operational, Macrumors reported.

Shenzen Baili reportedly filed the patent lawsuit in December 2014following Apple's release of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Despite Shenzhen Baili's victory in Intellectual Property Office of Beijing, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus 2014 models can still be bought in the Chinese smartphone market due to Apple Inc.'s appeal.

The company, Shenzhen Baili Marketing Services Co. was called via phone and the calls were left unanswered. Also, the company's website was deleted. The company's registered offices were visited and there was no Shenzhen Baili office to be found, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Furthermore, the said company does not produce their smartphone, 100c model, anymore. Since the company was found to be bankrupt, it was concluded that all they have been doing is only protecting the patents named under the company. Also, former employees of the company suggested that Shenzhen Baili aims only to land in a form of settlement and earn money from Apple.

If the company can earn money on the patent infringement, the Baili phone products could make a comeback in the market. From the look of things, the company needs money even though it will not go back to the smartphone industry.

However, the company's lawyer, differs whenever told that Baili only sued Apple for money. The lawyer said that Digione making smartphones is not the issue. The issue, he said is whether the iPhone 6 infringes the patent
