NY GLAAD Media Awards 2016: Mariah Carey, Laverne Cox, Caitlyn Jenner and Stars Lobby LGBT Rights [VIDEO]

During the GLAAD Media Awards 2016 in New York, Mariah Carey was one those who were given honor at the event. During her acceptance speech, she openly voiced her support for LGBT rights and fairness. The same goes for Robert De Niro who was honored as well.

Lee Daniels, film producer and director and close friend of Mariah Carey said that the songstress is "one of them," Billboard noted. Daniels who is openly gay was the one presented the honor to Carey. In her acceptance speech, Carey thought the award she received was of more substance and think that it is "great." The "Hero" singer proceeded to share her knowledge of the new alphabet using the acronym LGBT. She said that the L stands for Legendary, G for Gorgeous, B for Beautiful, T for Tantalizing and Q for Quality.

The LGBT inclusive GLAAD Media awards also presented Robert De Niro with an award as well. De Niro asked Jennifer Lawrence to attend with him and it was Lawrence who presented the actor with the award.


The people behind the GLAAD Media awards aim to spread LGBT acceptance all over media. According to their website, their objective is to provide support and equality for LGBT individuals in news, entertainment and even social media across the world. The event was hosted by LGBT rights activitis Laverne Cox.

Caitlyn Jenner Received GLAAD Media Awards 2016 for TV Journalism

Caitlyn Jenner was also honored at the GLAAD Media Awards 2016. She accepted the award for outstanding TV journalism for her interview with Diane Sawyer in ABC, Variety noted. Jenner said in her acceptance speech that the LGBT community deserves the same rights and should be treated as human beings.
