AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll 2014 Week 13: Kentucky Regains All the First-Place Votes
ByThe Kentucky Wildcats (1) can thank the Duke Blue Devils (4) for getting them their 65 first-place votes in the AP college basketball poll once again.
In week 13 of the top 25 ranking, Kentucky is the last remaining unbeaten team in the poll and are the unanimous choice at the top for the first time since week nine. The Virginia Cavaliers (3) lost their first game of the season Saturday at home hosting Duke.
Virginia may be able to climb back to the second spot though, as they are scheduled to visit the UNC Tar Heels (12) and Louisville Cardinals (9) this week. But losses in either or both those games could knock the Cavaliers down further.
Duke stayed put for losing to Notre Dame and then beating Virginia and will be getting another shot at the Irish, hosting them in Durham on Thursday.
But Kentucky is making those overtime wins against Ole Miss and Texas A&M last month look more and more like afterthoughts. Since those two games, they have held their six opponents to point totals of 37, 48, 57, 43, 53 and 55. They have three games this week, playing Georgia, Florida and LSU for the first time this season.
Indiana and Miami fell from the ranking this week and were replaced by Ohio State (20) and SMU (23). Texas (25) lost twice last week, to Iowa State (11) and Baylor (19), continuing their gradual descent through the AP poll after reaching sixth overall in week 4.
