Apple's new iPad is expected to live up to its "Air" moniker more than the current model, as leaked specifications say the new tablet will thinner by half a millimeter.
A Korean tech blog called Tinhte first released the photos of the iPad Air 2, though various pieces of evidence suggest the model is a prototype. If so, the images could well be depicting the new iPad, just not the finished product.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPad Air 2 in an event on Oct. 16, Mashable reported, so it is possible that the person who photographed the device got their hands on discarded prototype model.
As Mashable noted, the images do have some key characteristics that experts and insiders are expecting for the new iPad, such as the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The photos also showed the device on its side and there was no mute button, leading the website to believe the iPad was a prototype model.
According to the Verge, the iPad Air 2 is expected to be 7mm thin, the same as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The new iPad is also expected to be released with a gold color option, mimicking the color palates first introduced with the iPhone 5.
The Verge also said the specs should mostly be the same, save for a few improvements and possibly an ant-reflective screen. It does remain to be seen whether or not Apple has something big planned for their upcoming event.
If their pattern for the annual Sept. event holds, Apple should tease the event this week and release their new devices about a week after unveiling them. Experts are also expecting Apple to release the new desktop operating system, OS X Yosemite, which will bring the iOS 7 aesthetic to iMacs and MacBooks.
