University of North Alabama Starts Fall Break Early After Threat

By

The University of North Alabama is starting its fall break a day early to combat a threat recently found on campus, school officials announced Monday.

A threat was found last week on a bathroom wall said four people would die on Oct. 9. In response to this threat, school officials decided that campus will be closed on Thursday as well as Friday, Oct. 10, for fall break, Inside Higher Ed reported.

Police told The Huntsville Times the threat was not directed at anyone specifically.

University President John Thornell said "cancelling classes and closing campus a day early will not make the threat go away, but it sends a message that the university takes threats seriously and our first priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff."

Even though the campus will close a day early, [he University of North Alabama's Police Department] will still have additional officers on campus to help with security around the residence halls," according to a spokesman for the school.

Kilby Laboratory School on campus will also be closed on Thursday as well.  Only essential personnel will be on campus.

The school's police department is investigating the case and asking anyone with information, or anybody who sees anything out of the ordinary.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to contact University police at 256-765-Help.
