Jameis Winston was issued a citation for stealing crab legs from a Florida grocery store.

TomahawkNation.com initially reported Winston was arrested for shoplifting at Publix, but later updated the story to correctly state it was a citation.

"He got an adult civil citation," an unnamed source in the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) told the website. "If he completes the sanctions it will never show up on his record. They commonly give them to juveniles on first criminal offenses. They are now doing it for minor misdemeanors for adults to lower crime rate."

Officer Dave Northway, TPD public information officer, told the Sporting News' Chris Littman the department had no knowledge of the incident, most likely because Winston was issued a citation and not arrested.

Tomahawk Nation later reported the Lee County Sherriff's Office will address the situation at 2 p.m. Neither Winston nor Florida State University commented publicly on the report. An unnamed source at the school said Winston is likely to face community service, a $30 fine and a suspension from the baseball team.

Late last year, Winston was questioned for his involvement in a long ongoing BB-gun battle and was accused by Burger King of stealing soda in a ketchup cup.

Winston is implicated in a federal lawsuit from the woman who accused him of raping her in Feb. 2013. Nearly a year after the alleged incident took place, the case reached the state attorney, who said he did not have enough evidence to pursue criminal charges against Winston. The woman also named the TPD and the school for not adequately investigating the case.

Since, the U.S. Education Department's Office of Civil Rights has opened a federal probe to investigate whether or not FSU violated the Title IX law by mishandling the woman's rape claim.

On the field, Winston won the Heisman Trophy and led the Seminoles to an undefeated season, capped off by a National Championship victory. He is now serving as the Seminoles baseball team's closer.
