A number of tech fans were shattered when Microsoft's highly anticipated Surface Pro 5 was not unveiled at the tech giant's May 2 event. What was unveiled was Microsoft's Surface Laptop which is impressive on its own, but it's far from near what a Surface Pro 5 is anticipated to be. Nonetheless, the latest reports about Microsoft's upcoming 2-in-1 laptop is that the device may finally come out this month.

The latest buzz about Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is that it may finally roll out this month. The report supposedly came straight from the tech giant's high-ranking official through a tweet. Microsoft's VP of Devices, Panos Panay, indicated on his tweet that something new from the Surface line will be unveiled in Shanghai, China on May 23.

Nevertheless, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will get a decent spec upgrade over the Surface Pro 4. The most obvious technological development of the upcoming device in the intervening time has come in the processor department, Alphr reported.

But, Microsoft insider Paul Thurrott claimed that Microsoft's next flagship hybrid laptop will be nothing dramatic, but Thurrott did indicate that the device will be powered by Intel's processor. The Surface Pro 4 was launched with the 6th-gen Skylake processor, and while the newer 14nm Kaby Lake processor already out in the market since 2016, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will surely have that processor under its hood, CNET reported.

As it stands, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 remains nowhere in sight. Tech fans are advised to look up alternatives. One such choice is the new HP Elite x2 convertible tablet, which has been described to be the clone of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Furthermore, the Core i5 base model of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will likely be worth around $899. The higher end Core i7 models might cost $999 and $1,599.
