Meryl Streep's much-anticipated event at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell has been postponed to April 1 due to the forecast of an impending snowstorm Wednesday. The Oscar-winning American actress was scheduled to visit the Lowell campus at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the event at the Tsongas Center, titled 'A Conversation With Meryl Streep.'

The university officials rescheduled the event to a later date as they chose not to risk the life of 'The Iron Lady' star. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings to 12 of Massachusetts' 14 counties, early this morning, Mass Live reports. The warning read "snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches with isolated amounts of 14 inches possible."

Attendees to the event were certainly surprised and questioned the University's decision. They argued that when NFL teams can play in subzero temperatures, why can't an 18 time Oscar nominee attend the event and speak into a microphone when it snows?, Boston Globe reports.

When Streep makes an appearance two months later, the results of the 86th Academy Awards will be out in the open and whether Steeps manages to win her fourth Oscar for her performance in 'August: Osage County' will also be known by then.

The tickets purchased for the Wednesday's event, sponsored by UMass Lowell, will be valid April 1.

The event will see the Academy Award winner discussing her acting career. The proceeds from the event will go towards the establishment of Meryl Streep Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Joan Hertzberg Endowed Scholarship (named after Streep's former classmate at Vassar College) to assist brilliant UMass Lowell students in English and Math majors to pay for their education.
