Mars Reconnaissance Orbited (MRO) spotted a spherical object on the surface of the Red Planet. The image of the huge object was taken on the dry surface of what was once a lake. The structure was casting a shadow on the surface.

Mars caught the attention of scientists because it has been considered as one of the planets that can support life. Knowing more about it could hasten the planned trip to Mars in a few years time.

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter was launched into space in 2005 to map the surface of the planet Mars. It took pictures of the red planet and sent them to Earth. Up to the present, the MRO has sent back to Earth images of the surface of the Red Planet by the thousands. These images were studied with the hope that they would reveal something about the planet Mars. Scientists, alien hunters and conspiracy theorists inspected the most recent image, according to Mirror.

While scientists had an explanation as to the presence of spherical object, other groups were forming speculations about it. Some believed that Martians had been building a tower, which proved that there is intellectual life in Mars.

However, scientists suggested that the object might be one of the spherules. These are spherical objects that abound in many places in Mars as indicated by images taken by the Mars Rover Curiosity. In fact, there was an image of a spherical object in the same location on a photo taken by the Rover last December 20 last year.

There were several explanations presented regarding the presence of spherules. One was that they might have been formed when molted rocks were thrown into the air due to an explosion. Another theory was that these spherules were the result of a chemical reaction as water passed through porous rocks, according to Mail Online.

The image captured by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter would hopefully help in determining the possibility of life in Mars. This could be a breakthrough that would impact mankind.
