When a mother learned about her daughter's dream to become a dentist, she has decided to take action and that paved the way for the creation of Girls 4 Science. The program is aims to increase STEM exposure to girls so that they become more excited and interested about it.

Jackie Lomax is the founder of Girls 4 Science organization based in Chicago, and according to NewsOne, the focus of the group is help minority girls aged 10 to 18 to develop their curiosity and interest in the fields of science, math, engineering and technology.

At present, more than 500 girls have been trained by the program and Lomax looks forward to training 500 more, ABC7 reported.

One of the students, Nakia Chappelle expressed how Girls 4 Science has opened many different opportunities for her. She is one of the many girls who spends her Saturdays to attend the Girls 4 Science program. She is happy about how she gets to learn these things outside of the classroom and get to do it with the people or her friends who share the same interest.

According to Lomax, the teachers are all subject matter experts who work in different industries of STEM. The program is for free and discusses the topics which are taken fresh from the headlines.

Lomax looks forward to giving the same opportunity to learn to many more young women because she considers the fields of science, technology, engineering and math to be an important aspect of the people's lives. And her goal is to be able to increase women's exposure to these things, empower them and hopefully find employment in the STEM related industries in the future.

At present, the graduation rate and college placement of the program is at 100 percent.
