Dorial Green-Beckham, a 20-year-old University of Missouri wide receiver, was arrested in Springfield for possession of marijuana along with two other men. All of them were later released on bond.

Anthony Cunis, Springfield police representative, said that Green-Beckham, John W. McDaniel (22) and Patrick Prouty (20) were arrested during a traffic stop in southwest Missouri, late Friday.

The officers initially pulled over a 1999 Jeep Cherokee after noticing its expired license plates. It expired in October 2013. When probed further, they sniffed marijuana in the vehicle and found 'approximately a pound of marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia' in the vehicle, Sport-Illustrated reports.

"When the officer made contact with McDaniel regarding the license plate violation, he could smell an odor of marijuana inside the vehicle," Vance Holland, police spokesman, said, News-Leader reports.

McDaniel, the driver, said that the marijuana was neither his nor Green-Beckham's.

"This wasn't supposed to happen," said McDaniel, a 2009 graduate of Glendale High School. "We were just driving, going to a friend's house."

Green-Beckham commented on the situation Saturday evening:

No charges have been filed yet. An investigation has been initiated into the drug-related incident. Currently, the substance is being tested.

This is the second time in 15 months that Green-Beckham is being caught for possessing marijuana. In October 2012, the Springfield native was charged for smoking pot in a campus parking lot near Memorial Stadium.

Green-Beckham signed a letter of intent with Missouri in February 2012. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound was part of Tigers' win in the SEC East and Jan. 3's Cotton Bowl.

"He set national prep records at Springfield Hillcrest High with 6,353 career yards receiving and 75 touchdown catches. Last season, the sophomore had 59 receptions with a 15-yard average and 12 touchdowns," reports the Associated Press.

John Beckham, Dorial Green-Beckham's father believes his son will be not slapped with any drug-related charges.

"After being interviewed he was released," Beckham said. "We feel very confident that the investigation will result in no charges against Dorial. Dorial very much regrets being in this situation and our family looks forward to this being resolved."
