Researchers and scientist agree that within 100 years, humankind will be extinct similar to what happened to the people who once inhabited the Easter Island.

Pollution, unbridled consumption, climate change, and overpopulation are just some of the factors that will wipe out humanity from the face of the Earth. This was the prediction of Frank Fenner, professor emeritus of microbiology at the Australian National University and also one of those responsible for completely wiping out smallpox.

He then used the fate of the Rapa Nui as an example saying the people became extinct even before the Europeans arrived. Thanks to overpopulation who soon used up all the resources of the island which made life unsustainable there. Fenner said the same pattern is happening today and other scientists can't agree more.

In a major study published in the journal Science, scientists said that human activities are already beyond what scientists call their "planetary boundaries." This means that because of these activities, earth is becoming an unsafe place for humans to live on. These boundaries include deforestation, extinction rate, very high levels of carbon dioxide emission, and the chemicals from fertilizers flowing into the ocean.

Other studies and research yield are not encouraging as well. Biologists from the University of Leeds said that by 2050, 10 percent of all fauna and flora will disappear from the face of the Earth. That means more than a million species of plant and animal life will be completely wiped off including the large predators.

Life in the sea is suffering the same fate. A report conducted by the Atlantic Salmon Trust showed that the salmon is facing extinction as well due to the farming and climate disruptions. More so, there are also anomalies happening in the ocean where rare marine life rose in record numbers since 2014.

The air is not much better with reports of high methane emissions among other problems. Scientists have sounded the alarm that if these emissions will not be stopped, Earth's temperature will be warmer by 4 to 6 degrees by 2100.

The reports get more dire every day but they should serve as an eye-opener to evaluate our actions.
