Cincinnati State Technical and Community College helps low income students afford college with their new grant program.The said program will be providing eligible students up to $1,000 to cover the costs of tuition and $1,000 for the books.

The grant is intended for graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools who are full time and degree-seeking students at Cincinnati State, Cincinnati.com reported. The students who will be eligible for the grant are the ones who are qualified for a federal Pell Grant.

The program is entitled "Be Great High School Grants" program, and the Cincinnati State Foundation is the one that is funding it. It will start in the academic year 2017-2018. It was last Tuesday when Cincinnati State and public school district officials hosted a press conference to announce the new program.

About 75 percent of high school students who are enrolled in CPS are economically disadvantaged, according to 700 WLW, and this report is based on the data from the Ohio Department of Education. This new program is going to be such a big help to the low income students who aspire to attend higher education and earn a degree.

Monica Posey, the president of the Cincinnati State said that the program will be beneficial to a lot of CPS students who might have a difficulty pursuing a degree. She also said that it is about building the future of their region because they will be able to help provide students with opportunities to develop the skills that will be required of them in the future by their employers.

The students who will be eligible for the grant and will be able to complete a two-year degree at Cincinnati State can have the chance to transfer to the University of Cincinnati. This can be made possible through the Cincinnati Pride Grant Program.
